About the event
Welcome back, Gatlinburg! We are excited to continue with our successful “Our Story” series, where Appalachian stories are told and preserved. To kick off this new season, Wiley Oakley storyteller Lew Bolton will be our next guest this September! We are giving you a heads up to mark your calendars and be ready to learn about the legendary storyteller, Wiley Oakley.
Who is Wiley Oakley? He was a wise mountain man who was born and raised here in the Smoky Mountains and gave his life to preserving Smoky Mountain heritage. Wiley had many titles to his name, including father, husband, writer, naturalist, businessman, philosopher, entertainer, activist, and First Smokies Guide. He was also known to own the Wiley Shop, where he performed with friends and family to entertain locals and guests. His passion for the Smokies was passed on to his family and continues to this day.
