Tennessee
Electronic Library (TEL) is an on-line database of 10,000 magazines and
newspapers. TEL is a wonderful research resource, available to any
Tennessee
resident.
The
TEL databases include on-line full-text articles from magazines and
newspapers for leisure, hobbies, travel, health and nutrition, sports,
business, professionals, science, literary criticism. Several databases
are designed for student research, and "Kids InfoBits" is for
young children.
All
full-text articles in TEL provide a full source citation so that anyone
can use the database in exactly the same way as he/she would by using
print sources that can be held in one’s hands. Articles can also be
printed at any printer connected to the internet computer.
TEL is FREE and anyone
can access TEL from any
computer—home, business or laptop—anywhere with an internet
connection. The Tennessee Electronic Library is a collaborative effort of
all libraries in the state of
Tennessee
with initial funding provided by the federal government.
Most
magazines that are available in print are also available on the TEL
databases and include popular titles such as

Click
on the TEL link.
Enter
the password (call APPL at 436-5588 to obtain password), and
click on "Proceed."
Scroll
down and click on InfoTrac OneFile (or any other database listed).
Click
in the circle marked "Limit the Search (optional) to Articles with
Text."
Click
in the Entry box and enter subject for search.

Do I Read Next? is a new (2004)
database that "includes over 100,000 recommended titles, more than
60,000 plot summaries, and awards information from 562 awards, all to help
users uncover new reading adventures, find long-remembered favorites, and
discover award-winning titles. Search by genre, subject, author, title,
series, and more. A monthly highlights page allows the user to see
selections of award winners, upcoming titles, and titles that revolve
around different subjects each month."
For
Spanish-speaking readers, more than 150 revistas are available with
full-text articles in Spanish on the ¡Informe! database. ¡Informe!
is "Una colección de revistas hispánicas con textos completos.
Abarca negocios, salud, tecnología, cultura, temas de actualidad y otras
materias."
